One of the most shiny spring flowers here in the Wachau area is alyssum, which not only grows on the ground but also out of the old stone walls. An easy hike starting directly at the guesthouse leads you over the Danube bridge to the "Steiner Altenburg" vineyard. Keep your eyes open to spot a green lizard (lacerta viridis) in a sunny wall crack. Continuing your walk to Krems you might have a stop in one of the traditional cafès.
