The long-distance hiking trail through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau combines a unique cultural and natural landscape with rich history and regional cuisine on its 180 kilometers between Melk and Krems.
From Krems/Stein to the medieval town of Dürnstein
We start right at the ad vineas guesthouse, from there we cross the bridge in the direction of Krems/Stein, continue via the Pfaffenberg and Loibenberg vineyards to the Höhereck and Kellerberg nature reserves. Under the ruins of Dürnstein Castle, we immerse ourselves in a fascinating rock and forest landscape. Finally we reach the panoramic Kuhberg and a few minutes later Dürnstein.
Here it's time for a snack at the Alter Klosterkeller.
Of course, you could also walk back to Mautern after a leisurely rest, but we decide to take a boat trip with the DDSG Blue Danube and then walk from Stein to Mautern
In addition to the World Heritage Trail, countless hiking trails lead through the Wachau, cycle paths as well as numerous sights are to be explored. Martin and Elisabeth Samek from the ad vineas guesthouse know many well-frequented and less-visited places in the Wachau and are happy to give you tips for excursions.
