Traveling to Mautern an der Donau is convenient and environmentally friendly using public transportation.
The nearest major train station is in Krems an der Donau. From there, regional buses (e.g., the Wachau Line WL2) run regularly to Mautern. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Krems train station directly to the guesthouse (price approximately €15–€18).
Travel from Germany (via Salzburg) usually involves taking the train via St. Pölten to Krems, which is about 30 km away. The Westbahn railway line is one of the most important connections in Austria and runs through St. Pölten, where all national and international trains stop at the main station (Hauptbahnhof).
There are also regular train connections from Vienna to Krems an der Donau. The Franz Josef Railway (e.g. from Vienna Spittelau) offers a direct connection to Krems in about an hour. Depending on your departure point in Vienna, you can also travel to St. Pölten via the Westbahn railway line. Travels from Prague lead you to Vienna main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), where you catch the train to St. Pölten.
